Stephanie Economou is a young powerhouse of a world-class Grammy-winning composer, conductor, violinist and multi-instrumentalist, who was born and raised in Long Island, New York, USA. She has worked on music across film, television, animation and games showing a ability to adapt, innovate and spark emotion in all the different music she has composed in her relatively still young career as a prodigy. The grammy-award winning composer is currently critical acclaim for her work on the DC Studios & Warner Bros. production of the hit HBO Max series ‘LANTERNS’ starring Aaron Pierre, Kyle Chandler and Kelly McDonald exploring the Green Lanterns lore and universe. The music and themes she has produced has really resonated with audiences helping to elevate the show even further. I have always been an advocate on the extreme importance of music, in movies, television and even video games. Her work is gaining her more prominence and well-deserved global recognition in providing and creating an iconic theme for one of the most-beloved comic book superheroes Green Lantern-John Stewart to life in his first live-action debut along with Hal Jordan, something DC and Warner Bros. are unmatched at from John Williams Superman theme, Danny Elfman’s Batman (1989), Michael Giacchino with his equally quality theme for The Batman(2022) to Hans Zimmer & Tina Guo’s Wonder Woman, Black Adam’s by Lorne Balfe, and many more. Stephanie without a doubt is on her way to achieving legendary status herself in my opinion. We really hear her interpretation come through in one of the most powerful episode of lanterns in episode 3 ‘Outkast’ which tells the story of John Stewarts origin story explaining his journey on joining the Green Lantern Corps. Her score really captures the intense atmosphere, the burden and foreboding through her brilliant use of guitars, electronic sounds and instruments the score/theme possesses a very 1980’s and 90’s like vibe capturing you emotionally and resonating with the storytelling, like a gunslinger walking into town.

Stephanie Economou Talks HBO’s Lanterns, DC Music & Green Lantern Theme

‘ It’s a dream for a composer, This was the kind of score that I feel like I’ve always wanted to write but never quite had the opportunity to, in the sense that this grounded, gritty, tactile sort of aesthetic that the show has, the dark one. I’ve never quite gotten to do that before. And the second I saw a little bit of footage from the show, I just heard things in my head. And I very much heard rock influenced music, I heard a lot of like grunge, 90’s rock, you know Nine-Inch-Nails, Nirvana, Allison Chains, Mark Lanigan kind of thing, Radiohead massively.’
